Looking Forward to IMTS 2014

IMTSWith 2013 winding down, we’re all looking forward to the promise of another good year for manufacturing in 2014 and, although it may seem far away, we’re also looking forward to IMTS 2014. Early indications are that a record number of exhibitors and visitors will grace the halls of McCormick place next September 8 – 13. Certainly there will be exciting new technologies and sharing of information that will help everyone from the smallest CNC machine shop to the largest mega-manufacturers advance their operations. Here are a few other highlights according to information released by The Association for Manufacturing Technology (AMT).

  • In the Emerging Technology Center (ETC), Local Motors, a maker of energy-efficient vehicles, will actually manufacture a new city vehicle (The Boston Bullet) on the premises, with the aim to drive the car off the floor at the end of the Show.
  • A new manufacturing process called Additive/Subtractive will be showcased in the ETC space that uses 3-D printing to produce components that can then be machined to precise dimensions.
  • Over 65 educational sessions are being planned for the IMTS Conference that runs September8 – 11. Topics will include materials engineering, new technology trends, alternative manufacturing, factory operations and metrology.
  • As in prior years exhibitor booths are grouped into Pavilions of like technology. These include: Abrasive Machining/Sawing/Finishing, Controls & CAD-CAM, EDM, Fabricating/Laser/Additive, Gear Generation, Machine Components/Cleaning/Environmental, Metal Cutting, Quality Assurance, and Tooling and Workholding Systems.

According to IMTS spokesman Peter Eelman of AMT, “There is nothing like IMTS. It's an entire industry of more than 100,000 manufacturing professionals in one place, at the same time, with one focus – advanced manufacturing. They come together and leave inspired.”

Gosiger, of course, will exhibit at IMTS 2014 and hopes to inspire you there. In the meantime, contact Gosiger to learn about the latest advancements in CNC machining technologies.
